KEENE, NH – Keene State College has been ranked No. 1 in the northeast for Undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report.

Regional colleges in the North are in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Maryland. Schools are nominated by college presidents, provosts, and admissions deans who participated the annual U.S. News peer assessment survey.

According to a news release from KSC, the undergraduate teaching ranking focuses on college and universities whose faculty and administrators are committed to teaching undergraduate students in a high-quality manner.

Along with the No. 1 ranking for Undergraduate Teaching, Keene State also ranked 5th in Best Colleges for Veterans, 8th in Top Public School and Best Value College, and 12th in Overall Regional College. the 12th overall regional ranking is out of 52 colleges in the north region. That ranking is done according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

Keene State College President Dr. Melinda Treadwell joined WKBK Monday morning and mentioned the ranking, which is a point of pride for her.

“I think students who may have struggled in High School with some of the connection and academic learning are coming to a place where we’re all about that, we’re all about helping them build,” Treadwell said. “I think some written and spoken skillsets have lacked a little bit because we haven’t had as much instructional support in classrooms, but those students are catching up really really fast.”

Paul Miller, Director of Strategic Communications at Keene State College said the ranking is “a nice feather in the cap for the college, and more importantly for its talented faculty.”
