KEENE, NH – A restaurant that’s operated in Downtown Keene for nearly four decades is closing this week.
Last week employees of Timoleon’s Restaurant at 27 Main Street were told that the restaurant would be closing on Thursday.
In a phone interview with WKBK Wednesday morning, manager Sondra Lynch said owner and founder Lindy Chakalos just turned 95 this past June and his health is declining, so it’s the right decision to close now.
“He’s just not doing well and it’s just too much on him,” she said. “He was a very good guy and it’s sad to see him go. He’s still with us, but he’s not doing well at all.”
Chakalos also opened another popular downtown breakfast joint, Lindy’s Diner in 1961 and sold that in 1975. That diner still bears his name.
Timoleon’s first opened its doors in 1985 and will close at the end of their business day on Thursday, when they’ll be open 6 am – 2 pm.
