KEENE, NH – Police have shot and killed a man who was named a person of interest after his ex-girlfriend was found dead in Brattleboro.

Brattleboro police located the body of a missing Massachusetts woman, who was last seen in Hudson New Hampshire, in her vehicle on Elliot Street shortly before 1:00 Tuesday morning.

The woman was identified as Mary Anderson, 23, of Harvard Massachusetts and the death was deemed suspicious. Later, Brattleboro and Vermont State Police named her ex boyfriend, Matthew Davis, 34, of Fitchburg Massachusetts as a person on interest.

Davis was located around 7:45 Tuesday night walking in West Brattleboro and during a confrontation with both Brattleboro and State police was shot and pronounced deceased at the scene.

All circumstances surrounding the situation are under investigation, including which officers fired their weapons.

An autopsy on Anderson’s body is scheduled for today and more information will be made available once the results are ready.
