KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) In a heartfelt announcement on WKBK Radio’s Good Morning with Dan Mitchell show today, longtime meteorologist Pat Pagano revealed his plans to step back from daily broadcasting after 48 years of delivering the weather forecast. Pagano, who has been a staple on WKBK since 2000, shared the news with listeners, reflecting on his decades-long career and the bittersweet emotions surrounding his semi-retirement.

Pagano, who started his company Metro Weather in 1976 (it’s one of the oldest and largest private weather consulting companies in the U.S), spoke about the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement for the role he has held with dedication for so long. After an extensive search, Pagano introduced National Weather Forecasting, Inc. as the service that will take over his duties. The company, led by meteorologists Russ Murley and Phil Spevak, has over 50 years of combined experience and will now provide weather services for WKBK Radio. Joe Sciacca will serve as the station’s regular daily weather anchor.

“Weather will always go on with or without me,” Pagano said in an earlier letter to Mitchell announcing his retirement, quoting poet Robert Frost.

Russ Murley and Phil Spevak, who have established themselves as trusted figures in operational forecasting, were praised by Pagano for their experience and commitment to accurate, personalized weather forecasting. The transition to their service will officially take place on Tuesday, Oct 15, but Pagano assured listeners that they will still hear his voice, albeit less frequently.

“This is not a full goodbye,” said Pagano, who will continue to be on WKBK’s airwaves on the first Wednesday of each month.

Pagano, who holds the National Weather Association seal of approval in both TV and radio weathercasting, has had a career spanning stints in New York television and radio.

The announcement was met with mixed emotions from listeners and co-host Dan Mitchell, who reflected on the deep connection Pagano has formed with the community over the years. While his regular presence will be missed, the promise of his continued involvement offers comfort to many long-time fans.

As Pagano looks forward to enjoying the benefits of semi-retirement, including travel and more personal time, he expressed confidence that the future of weather forecasting on WKBK is in good hands.
